4 Star Summer Novellas

I read a few novellas over the past few weeks and I enjoyed them.  None of these were in the style I normally read but it was fun to try something new!  I enjoyed the stories enough that now a few weeks later I can still remember what they are about and my emotions while reading them.  For a few weeks I was hooked on reading novellas.  All of these books can be read as standalones but one is part of a series.  I just wanted to read short stories that were intense and kept me hooked.  I am normally a series type girl but recently I was in the mood for novellas and so were a lot of people on facebook.

Genre:  Paranormal Erotica Novella

Author: Tamara Hogan

Rating: 4 stars

Add on Goodreads:  Touch Me (Underbelly Chronicles #2.5)

One-click Buy from Amazon: Touch Me (Underbelly Chronicles)

The novella Touch Me (Underbelly Chronicles) by Tamara Hogan is one that is part of a series.  It is book #2.5 in the paranormal series, so I probably should have read the others before, it but it gave me a good idea of what the series will be like and I am actually looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

The blurb is:

Mere hours after human technology whiz Bailey Brown learns the truth about her Sebastiani Security co-workers—they’re all vampires, incubi, succubi, sirens, faeries, Valkyrie, and werewolves!—she’s thrown into an undercover operation protecting a siren singer at Underbelly, one of Minneapolis’s premier nightclubs. With pheromones saturating the air like sweet chloroform, starving for touch, and her inhibitions fading fast, Bailey has to avoid Rafe Sebastiani, her boss’s gorgeous sex demon of a brother, at all costs…

Because only his touch will do…

I enjoyed this novella because it was easy to follow and even though I hadn’t been introduced to the characters by reading the earlier novels, I picked up on the story quite quickly.  It definitely had me hooked from the start and it was well written.  I haven’t read the other parts of this series but I have added them on goodreads!

Genre:  LGBT Novella

Author: Iyana Jenna

Rating: 3.5 stars

Add on Goodreads:  Just a Little Unwell

One-click Buy from Amazon: Just a Little Unwell

This novella Just a Little Unwell by Iyana Jenna was a short m/m romance story that I read in one quick sitting.

The blurb is:

Patrick Trafford is pleased with the simple life he has, spending his time tending a tiny garden accompanied by his best friend, Chad, a cockroach. Nevertheless, he can’t hide the excitement bubbling in him as a man suddenly appears in the garden.

Damien Abner politely welcomes, albeit somewhat at a loss, Patrick’s warm offer to spend time with him. To have a coffee, watch some movie, and dance along with the characters in it.

They begin to date and Patrick has never been happier, though he barely knows who Damien is—not that it matters to him. For him, being clueless does mean bliss.

I would give this story 3.5 stars since it’s a unique story and it’s written with a twist which is what I enjoyed most.

Genre:  Thriller Novella

Author: Allyson Gottlieb

Rating: 4 stars

Add on Goodreads: Darkest Legacy

One-click Buy from Amazon: Darkest Legacy

I started reading Darkest Legacy by Allyson Gottlieb on the plane from LAX to JFK and I finished it during the trip.  This is not a romance novella, it’s more of a thriller style short story.

The blurb is:

Everyone has secrets they’d prefer stayed buried.  But information wants to be free… and so does Tamara Kingsley’s ex-lover, incarcerated on the maximum-security prison planet, Alpha.

Tamara has done things she’s not proud of, but that was years ago.  Now the headmistress of the Silvermist School of Magic for Girls, she has an honest life, one that makes her happy.  For the last twenty years she’s fought like hell to keep it that way, and she thought she’d succeeded.

She’s about to find out just how wrong she was to think her past was dead and gone.

I have to say that I probably enjoyed it the most out of the 3 novellas featured on this post.  The ending is one that I was not expecting at all which and it took me by surprise. I would recommend this novella if you are looking for something short but not sweet!
