Pride and Pleasure

What can I say?  I LOVE all of Sylvia Day’s books and this one Pride and Pleasure was no different, it was great as well!  However, it didn’t grab me as much as her other historical romances The Stranger I Married (see my entry here) or Seven Years to Sin (see my entry here) both of which I LOVED!  (Not to mention all of her other books and the amazing Crossfire and Renegade Angels series!).

The blurb on the back says:

Wealth has its dangers…
There are disadvantages to being an heiress, as Eliza Martin knows well. Fortune hunters flock to her, acquaintances lie and pander, and lately, someone is engineering “accidents” to propel her to the altar. But Eliza will not be bullied, and she will get to the bottom of this plot. All she needs is a man to infiltrate her assemblage of suitors and find the culprit. Someone not easily noticed; a proficient dancer, quiet, and even-tempered.  Thief-taker Jasper Bond is entirely too large, too handsome, and too dangerous. Who would believe that an intellectual like Eliza would be seduced by a man of action? But the combination of her stubbornness and the mystery makes the case one Jasper can’t resist. Client satisfaction is a point of pride and it’s his pleasure to prove he’s just the man she needs after all…

The main characters grew on me and I pictured Jasper Bond the thief-taker (ie. bad boy bounty hunter) to be the Eureka bad boy Zane Donovan (played by Niall Matter @NiallMatter) and Eliza Martin to look like Aubrey O’Day (@AubreyODay) from the Celebrity Apprentice a few years back when she had fiery red hair.

You can either picture the main characters as those whom I’ve chosen or as the characters on cover of the original release who aren’t hard to look at either!

I am not sure if it’s because this book took me longer to read than the others or there were too many characters with similar names, but it was about half-way through before I really started to enjoy this book.  I had to flip back and re-read sections to figure out who was who, I prefer when I can get into the story straight away and understand who everyone is.  I am rating this book 4 of 5 stars because even though I liked it, I didn’t absolutely love it.  If you love Sylvia Day’s books it’s worth a read though.
