The book Open Your Eyes by Jani Kay was an emotional ride to say the least! There were a lot of times during the book where I was shaking my head and saying out loud ‘what are you thinking??’ to Natalie. I couldn’t get my head around some of the decisions she was making although I completely agree after finishing the book that all the emotions I felt were true to life. People make mistakes and people have real emotions and people don’t always follow their heart. A lot more stuff comes into the picture of life when you look at everything else that makes a person who they are.

Jani has been married for a long time to a special man, and
her two children and their partners are the sunshine in her life. She is a
voracious reader and would spend her last dollar on a book – always fascinated
that for the mere price of a book, she can escape her world for a while and see
through someone else’s eyes.
Besides reading, her favorite ‘thing’ is traveling – she has traveled the
world, learning about the ways people live and has come to the realization that
no matter where we live, we all ultimately want the same things. Her hobby –
Scrapbooking – keeps her up till way after midnight and her usual subjects are
her family and her travels.
Ever since she can remember, Jani wanted to
write stories about people, about their lives and loves. Relationships and
Happiness – arguably the most difficult things to master in life and yet
exactly what everyone ultimately desires (in her humble opinion).
The first half of the book was exciting, interesting, happy & sexy. It’s the second half that really brings out all the turmoil! I’m glad the book didn’t end after the first half as it could have, it needed the emotional second half in order to completely pull the story together.
I am rating this book 4 stars because it is so intense and the story sticks with you long after you have finished reading it! This is not a college love triangle romance but so much more with mature adults with conflicting lives. It is different than other books I’ve read recently and I love the originality. I like how this book was set in NYC, Sydney and Italy and had mature characters who were dealing with adult emotions. I would LOVE to see another book focusing on the younger generation of Olivia, Sarah, Josh & Connor.
