Lightpoints – a unique paranormal thriller!

lightpoints

This novel Lightpoints by Peter Kassan is an interesting book, unlike anything I’ve ever read.  It’s a paranormal story about what may happen to people once they get close to death and have a near death experience.  It freaked me out a bit that there could be people walking around with a 6th sense.

I thought this book was very original and I really enjoyed it.  It is not a romance book with a happy ever after.  It’s something completely different than all the books I’ve read over the last 10 months and it was a refreshing change.  This book doesn’t take very long to read but it sticks in your head for a long time afterwards.

The blurb says:

What if you suddenly discovered you had a sense-and powers-that almost no one else in the world did? When Amanda Lindner Nichols, a 24-year-old graphic artist living with her husband in Queens, New York, is revived from a near-death experience, she discovers she perceives everyone around her as points of light-but not with her eyes. She soon learns she can not only perceive the life energy of others, but she can give and take it. With the help of others like her, she brings her husband Chris to the brink of death and back to bestow on him the same remarkable faculty, and they’re the happiest they’ve been. But not for long. All over the world, people who’ve been revived from their own near-death experience at just the right moment discover themselves with these same unusual powers. They find ways to use them-some for good and some for evil. When Amanda and Chris encounter a ruthless group of gangsters with the same faculty, tragedy follows-and Amanda faces the greatest challenge of her life.

The author Peter Kassan let us all know what he imagines the 24 year old main character Amanda to look like based on the cover.  You can see his thought process when designing the cover here.

I am rating this book 4 stars since it had me hooked right from the start and intrigued me throughout the entire book.  However, I feel there could have been some more development of the alternate characters (we hear from others with the same 6th sense but their stories are sort of left hanging) or they could have been left out completely and developed in further novels or novellas.

All in all, I wasn’t bored reading this book and it was very refreshing if not disturbing, which I do enjoy!  I would definitely recommend this book and also look forward to reading any other books that Peter Kassan may write.
